The numerous art galleries of Moscow are an invaluable resource for art lovers whose interests may range from ancient Russian icon painting to Socialist realizm and contemporary art. The Central House of ArtistsThe Central House of Artists is a gigantic exhibition center with over 10 000 sq. m. of exhibition space, more than 300 exhibitions held each year and about 30 different small galleries representing all genres of Russian and Soviet Art. Here one can find art catering for any interests: Socialist realism of the 1930–50s, naive art, Russian realistic and impressionistic art, art of the 1960s (non-conformist art), conceptualism and contemporary art. The museum includes over 35 thousand items of true Russian art: ceramics from Gzhel, specimens from Khokhloma, Palekh, Fedoskino etc. The museum exhibits fine collections of folk crafts, ceramics, clothing, jewelry, collection samovars, lace, clay toys, furniture, and china. It was founded in 1990, a year before the Soviet Union collapsed.
