Krasnoyarsk History
During World War II a lot of plants from central Russia area were evacuated to Krasnoyarsk. The city is also famous because of general Lebed, who was the governor of Krasnoyarsk region in the end of 90s. He died in a helicopter crash in 2002, but local people respect him and relate a lot of improvements in the city life to his governance. Things to see and do
The pillars itself are relics of magma intrusion process. The ones we see today in the Park penetrated the Earth's crust and crystallized in the shape of pillars. The hardness of this intrusions is what is very unique. There are about 100 pillars in the Park, some reach 100 meters (328 feet) high. Many have names for their unique shapes. All together, the pillars and beautiful surrounding mountains covered with taiga forest make the Reserve a top destination for climbing, sightseeing and hiking. If you are in Krasnoyarsk you would definitely have to not miss the Krasnoyarsk Hydro Electric Power Station (Dam). This dam is located 40 km upstream of the city.
Krasnoyarsk regional Museum has an excellent range of displays on local history and culture. Exhibits include a full-scale replica of a boat used by the Cossack explorers of the area, and a fine ethnographical section. At Surikov Museum-estate you will enter another world of Siberian tranquility. Surikov Art Museum – there is more of Surikov’s work on show, along with other Russian art ranging from the 18th to 20th centuries |
